When you are logged into WordPress.com, it will take you back to the Akismet website. Where you have to provide details for payment.

If you chose the free plan, simply drag the price amount to $0.

Then click on “Create Subscription”. Now it will bring up a pop up in which you can say “Thanks! Your Akismet Basic subscription has been created”.

After clicking on Got it, you can see your free API key. Akismet will also send you an email containing your API Key.

Akismet API key is like a password. Don’t share this with anyone. If you ever lose your Akismet API key, you can use this link to recover it.

Now copy the Akismet API key and go to Plugins >> Akismet Settings.

And paste your Akismet key in the “enter an API key” box. After that click on Connect With API Key.
