Elon Musk is giving SpaceX’s artificial intelligence division a new name. The company, previously referred to as SpaceXAI, is set to become SpaceXSI, with the “S” standing for super while the “I” continues to represent intelligence.
Musk announced the change on X over the weekend, responding to a user’s suggestion that the AI business be renamed SpaceXSI.
The rebrand may sound like a minor name change, but it comes amid a broader push in Washington and the technology industry to replace the term artificial intelligence with super intelligence.
No more AI SI It’s better

Why Is SpaceXAI Becoming SpaceXSI?
The timing of Musk’s announcement is closely connected to the growing use of the term “super intelligence” in U.S. political and technology circles.
President Donald Trump recently argued that the phrase “artificial intelligence” makes AI sound fake, despite the technology’s real-world capabilities. During remarks to the United Nations General Assembly, Trump advocated the use of “super intelligence” instead.
The administration subsequently directed U.S. diplomats to use super intelligence rather than artificial intelligence in official communications.
The terminology shift has also gained attention among technology companies. Several major AI executives recently signed a voluntary pledge related to the development of advanced AI systems. The group included executives from companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as xAI CEO Elon Musk.
Then, on Sunday, the White House announced the creation of a new super intelligence task force, adding another layer to the growing prominence of the term.
Against that backdrop, Musk’s decision to rename SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI looks less like an isolated branding experiment and more like an extension of the terminology now being promoted around advanced AI.
What Exactly Is SpaceXSI?
For now, the practical details of the rebrand remain unclear.
Musk confirmed that the name would change after an X user asked whether SpaceXAI could be renamed SpaceXSI. Musk replied that the company would make the change.
However, the transition doesn’t appear to be complete yet.
At the time of the announcement, SpaceXAI was still being used as an official identity on X, while SpaceXSI appeared primarily as a search term rather than an established account or brand presence.
The web presence also hasn’t fully caught up with the proposed name. The existing x.ai domain remains associated with Musk’s AI business, while x.si does not currently lead to a corresponding company website.
🚨 JUST IN: President Trump just posted ELON MUSK confirming he’s switching over to "SI" instead of AI This comes as Elon is RENAMING SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI THE BOYS ARE BACK 🔥 ELON: "No more AI. SI. It’s better." 👏🏻 Everyone else will follow. America will remain number one in super intelligence!

That suggests the rebranding may still be in its early stages.
When Will the Name Change Happen?
That’s one question Musk hasn’t answered yet.
Reuters reported that Musk did not provide a specific timeline for when SpaceXAI would officially become SpaceXSI. The company itself also did not immediately provide additional details about the rebranding.
For now, the announcement confirms the intended name rather than a completed corporate or digital transition.
That distinction matters because changing a company name involves more than updating a label on social media. Domains, accounts, branding, legal entities and product references would all need to be updated if the change becomes official across the business.
Why the Shift From “Artificial” to “Super” Intelligence Matters
The terminology may seem cosmetic, but it reflects a larger debate about how advanced AI should be described.
“Artificial intelligence” has become the standard term for everything from chatbots and image generators to autonomous systems and increasingly capable reasoning models.
“Super intelligence,” by contrast, generally evokes AI systems that could surpass human capabilities across a much wider range of intellectual tasks.
Using the term for Musk’s AI business therefore sends a different message. It positions the company around the idea of increasingly capable AI rather than simply referring to the broader category of artificial intelligence.
Whether the new terminology becomes widely adopted remains uncertain.
The Name Change Doesn’t Alter the Bigger AI Debate
Changing SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI won’t change the technology itself, at least not on its own.
Musk’s AI operations remain part of a rapidly expanding industry that requires enormous amounts of computing power, specialized chips and data-center infrastructure.
That expansion has raised concerns about energy consumption, emissions and the growing demand for semiconductor components. The construction of large AI data centers is already fueling debate about their environmental impact and whether demand for AI hardware could contribute to future chip shortages.
In that context, changing “artificial” to “super” is unlikely to settle the larger questions surrounding the technology.
For now, SpaceXSI is best understood as a branding change that reflects a broader push toward the term “super intelligence.” Musk has confirmed that the name will change, but the timing and full details of the rebrand remain unclear.
Whether the new name sticks—and whether “super intelligence” becomes a lasting industry term—will depend on what happens next.
