Director Tharun Sudhir announced the film on February 16, 2022, coinciding with Darshan’s birthday. The project, initially attributed to Umapathy Srinivas Gowda, saw Rockline Venkatesh taking over, and an official announcement was made on February 16, 2022, unveiling a poster. The film, named after the renowned deity Kaateramma in Karnataka, enlisted dialogue writer Maasti, and actor Kumar Govind officially joined on March 17, 2023.
Collection at the Box Office
Katera made an impressive debut with an initial box office revenue of $1.321 million on its first day. The film sustained its success, earning $1.11 million on the fourth day. By the second day, it had accumulated Rs.7.85 crore, bringing the cumulative box office earnings to Rs.18.85 crore. Globally, the film’s box office revenue exceeded $5.8 million, with a net collection in India standing at $5.2 million.
Reception
The film received high praise from audiences. Swaroop Kodur of OTTplay gave it 3.5 stars, stating, “Kaatera could have definitely but the film is certainly worth a watch.” Filmibeat’s Narayana. M awarded it 3.5 stars, mentioning, “The movie [Kaatera] is made for the fans who enjoy seeing it again and can go to the theatre with their family.”
