What Has Changed With ChatGPT Images 2.5?

OpenAI’s image-generation models have historically had some recognizable weaknesses.

Instead of showing the character gradually dissolving into translucent spiritual energy, the model interpreted the instruction as an electrical effect running through her hair.

ChatGPT Images 2.5 produced impressive lighting and detailed skin texture. The visible sun behind the subject contributed to a convincing photographic effect, while the environment had a natural cinematic quality.

Interestingly, adding deliberately imperfect photography terms appeared to make the image feel even more realistic. Descriptions involving uneven lighting, crushed shadows, blown highlights and smartphone photography created a more authentic candid appearance.

Nano Banana 2 maintained a fuller composition and correctly produced a blueprint with readable text. It also placed the blueprint in the opposite hand from what the prompt requested.

The comparison therefore wasn’t completely one-sided.

Nano Banana 2 demonstrated better text handling and some stronger instruction-specific details, while ChatGPT Images 2.5 delivered a more convincing photographic look across repeated generations.

ChatGPT Images 2.5 produced a clean and organized infographic with multiple dates. However, one important date was incorrect. The image identified 2023 as the year the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs were approved.

Nano Banana 2 created a less structured timeline, but it avoided making the same confident error. It grouped some events into a broader 2023–2024 period rather than assigning the ETF approval to the wrong year.

ChatGPT Images 2.5 incorporated the invented words directly into the visual environment. One fictional location appeared as a neon sign, while another made-up term was placed on a board-game box.

That approach effectively transformed meaningless words into visible objects within the scene.

Nano Banana 2 interpreted the prompt differently. It generated a culturally detailed environment featuring a market setting, traditional clothing and a fantastical companion. It also interpreted one ambiguous instruction as referring to playing music rather than playing a game.

The result was visually interesting, but the invented terms themselves didn’t appear prominently in the image.

Because the test rewarded the ability to turn undefined concepts into something directly connected to the prompt, ChatGPT Images 2.5 came out ahead.

If your work involves text-heavy images, research-based graphics or situations where factual accuracy matters, Nano Banana 2 has some clear advantages based on this comparison.

If you’re more interested in cinematic imagery, atmospheric scenes, illustrations and creative experimentation, ChatGPT Images 2.5 may be the more appealing option.

For everyday image generation, however, the difference is much smaller than the model names might suggest.

Both systems are capable of producing impressive results, and both can still make small mistakes that require human review.

The Bottom Line

The latest battle between ChatGPT Images 2.5 and Nano Banana 2 doesn’t produce a single undisputed champion.
